Rep. Hayes made history as the first Black woman to represent the state of Connecticut in Congress. Before her election, she had a distinguished career in education and was was recognized as the National Teacher of the Year in 2016. She continues to demonstrate her visionary leadership as a champion of public education and improved outcomes for all students, college affordability, health care affordability for all, immigration reform, and gun violence prevention, among other key issues. We value her heart of service and tireless efforts to make sure no one is left behind in our society.
