U.S. Senate Mississippi

Mike Espy has deep roots in Mississippi. His grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Huddleston, helped organize the largest African American organization in the state, founded the first Mississippi hospital for African Americans, and founded The Century Voice. Taking inspiration from his grandfather, Mike Espy was elected the first African American congressman from Mississippi since Reconstruction and also served as Bill Clinton's secretary of agriculture, the first African American to hold that position. Espy's roots in organizing and dedication to the community have motivated him to run again for the U.S. Senate.
