Georgia State House District 101

In 2016, Representative Park ran as a first-time candidate and unseated a three-term Republican chairwoman. He became the first Asian-American Democrat and first openly gay man elected to the Georgia General Assembly. He is the son of Korean immigrants and the grandson of refugees from the Korean War. In December of 2014, Sam’s mother was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and given only four to six months to live. Thanks to Medicare and Medicaid, she had access to affordable, quality health care and the opportunity to live her final days in peace. Because of his mother’s fight, Sam has become a champion for expanding Medicaid in Georgia for the more than 1.5 million Georgians without health insurance, including 160,000 in his home county of Gwinnett. In addition to expanding Medicaid, Sam is working to pass comprehensive civil rights legislation to prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. Sam has been endorsed by the Red Clay Democrats, the Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates, Georgia Equality, and the LGBTQ Victory Fund.

"Sam has been a VERY conscientious representative. He is responsive and always well versed on issues. Best representative we have had in this district in the 30+ years we have lived here!" –Peter from Lawrenceville
